Internal enemies and easy targets

It was never (just) about books. Much bigger than the issues of “parental rights” or diversity and inclusion, these book-banning and anti-2s+LGBTQ crusades help pave the way for aspiring authoritarians.

In some cases they are intentionally put to work as part of a larger fascist campaign, while in others, opportunistic despots use them to their advantage, expanding upon and promoting them to further their own political agendas.

The pertinent strategies are:

  1. dramaturgia;

  2. astro-turfing; and

  3. internal enemies

As promised, I will discuss some strategies we can employ to protect ourselves and fight back against pre-fascism and tyrannical tactics.


Resistance is not futile

Thankfully, there are ways to resist the tyranny of “parental rights”, and their even more dangerous implications for society’s inclusive and democratic freedom. Snyder’s On Tyranny offers strategies for resisting the tactics of authoritarian and fascist movements. I will explore a few which are highly relevant here, and relate them to the systems outlined in my previous articles.
