The trainer and the advocate
The sun was shining in the sky,
Shining so very bright;
She did her utmost best to keep
The dogs safe day and night.
She loved her job; felt fortunate
To see her dream alight.
Then Covid came menacingly,
Wrought havoc on us all;
The shut downs hurt all businesses,
Especially the small.
She had to be resourceful then,
To stay up on the ball.
Back to her old career, she went,
To social work once more;
Renewed a love she thought had dimmed
For helping others soar.
She advocates for families,
When injustices roar.
It was her son who most needed
Her help right at the start.
His school treated him terribly;
Refused to do their part.
She had to catch up very quick,
Before they broke his heart.
He found out he was not alone,
As she had been that kid;
Who always got in trouble too,
And wouldn’t do as bid.
Who had to move around a lot,
And didn’t quite fit in.
Turns out we have ADHD,
We’re both Autistic too.
Our brains are wired differently,
Which impacts all we do.
It’s something I have come to love,
Unique about us two.
Alas another dream was born,
Out of a tale so sad;
We turned our sorrow into hope;
Made good out of the bad.
I offered up my services
To see what would be had.
The need was even more than I
Could ever have foreseen;
It turns out many families
Are now where we had been.
And I can use my knowledge here,
To help make brown grass green.
My business grew so hastily
I hardly could keep on;
There is but only one of me,
Against a system strong.
I do the very best I can
To make right what is wrong.
The time has come, the trainer said;
New challenges to square.
To fight alongside neurokin;
Families owed what’s fair.
It is an honour, truthfully
Trusted with souls laid bare.
I’ll surely miss the pets a lot,
After this thirteenth year;
I’ll think fondly on wagging tails;
Many a furry ear.
The animals gave me so much,
Memories I’ll hold dear.
