Professional Bigots Are The Most Dangerous Kind
They’ll even teach others underhanded tactics to further their hateful agendas
Don’t fall for it
“Won’t somebody please think of the children!”
Sometimes bigoted people can’t (and won’t) even acknowledge that they are biased against certain groups of people. It can be difficult to challenge our long-held beliefs.
Those folks are (of course) still accountable for their behaviour. We are all responsible for doing our own internal work to explore and rid ourselves of stereotypes, phobias, and prejudice.
Yet there is another group which is more dangerous and harmful.
These other bigots are fully aware of their hateful ideologies, believing them to be accurate and correct. Some of these folks will stoop to manipulation and deceit in order to further their personal and political agendas.
These are the folks who hide in plain sight, pretending that they’re not homophobic, transphobic, or whatever-phobic. Sometimes they claim they love everyone as human beings, they just “don’t agree with their lifestyle”.
Pro-tip: If you don’t accept someone’s sexuality or identity, then you don’t accept them wholly and completely as a person. That’s still phobic.
When social issues arise, they claim they’re not trying oppress, marginalize, or be hateful towards anyone, they’re just standing up for what they believe in.
Pro-tip #2: If what you believe in interferes with someone’s right to exist and be acknowledged as a person, then it’s not a religion or faith, it’s a hate group, and should be treated as such.
