A brief recap
When we left off, my spouse was repressing his urge to throw his cell phone out the hotel window after his experience trying to get help from Air Canada.
On top of that, we were stuck in a hotel, waiting to see if we would be able to get our vehicle repaired and finally continue our journey home.
Screw this, I’m going home
It will shock no one to learn that Air Canada was completely unhelpful. After being quoted $900 to change a flight (one my spouse was supposed to be able to change without additional charges), then hung up on, he gives up and books the reasonably priced ticket he found himself.
The plan is to speak to someone in person at the Air Canada desk in the airport to avoid another hour-long phone call (most of which is spent waiting on hold, of course).
We still can’t reach anyone at the dealership by phone, so I walk over there in search of an update on my vehicle.
It’s essentially worst-case scenario with regard to getting my vehicle fixed.
I am extremely fortunate that it’s still under warranty, because it looks like I need extensive engine repair. It could take anywhere from 2 to five weeks, depending on how long it takes to order in the necessary parts.
Two to five weeks. That’s it, I’m going home.
We book our flights — with WestJet this time. I doubt they’re much better, but we’re sure as hell not flying with Air Canada today (more on that saga coming up).
We check out of the hotel and cab over to the small airport 5 1/2 hours before our flight because we had to be out of the hotel by 11am. I was hoping to buy another book to read, sadly here is nothing here but luggage carousels, gates, and fellow fatigued travellers.
Sigh.
You have got to be kidding me
My spouse speaks to someone at the Air Canada desk who promptly tells him if he misses the first leg of his flight, then his entire trip is automatically cancelled.
He is also not permitted to switch the first portion of his flight to depart from a different city. Apparently that is an Air Canada policy. It doesn’t matter one bit that our vehicle is broken down and there is no way for him to get there without flying.
“Most flexible” option indeed.
