Education Policy: New leadership, same old problems
February is inclusive education month
Last February (2023), I wrote fifteen — 15! — articles about inclusive education. I shared every single one of them on social media, tagging our then-Minister of Education, who promptly and pointedly ignored every single one.
This October, Manitoba elected a new provincial government. The NDP have only had the reins for about three months, so I hope there will be meaningful change with our new leadership, but I won’t hold my breath.
Unfortunately with politics being a short-sighted game we more often see political stunts, glad-handing, and moves made for optics, rather than genuine and lasting change.
Sigh.
I hate performance without impactful action.
Worse than that, I hate action for the sake of looking like we’re doing something about a problem — especially when the proposed action will do more harm than good.
